The instructions below should get you through your first upload and after
that, uploading your videos will be simple for you too!

Myspace:
Open a MySpace account (free).
Step 1 To upload a video:
At the top of the MySpace home page you will find a bar of links -
Home, Browse, Search, Invite, etc.
One of the links says “Videos”.
Click on the Videos link and you’ll be at the Videos page of MySpace.
Here you will find four tabs – Featured, Videos, My Videos, and Upload.
Click on Upload,
This will take you to the Upload form.
Give your video a Title, a Description, Tags, and put it in Categories,
Select Make it Public (it will appear in search results, etc.)
or Private (it won’t appear in search results).
Filling in this area and agreeing to MySpace’s Terms of Agreement will
take you to the next page.
Step 2 of Uploading your video.
Formats are the different codecs (methods of reducing file size) created
by different groups and organizations for the purpose of compressing and
decompressing the large files that make up digital video. The most
common are .mov created by Apple associated with Macs (although, now,
universally acceptable) .wmv familiar to PC users, as well as the mpg
formats. The following formats are acceptable on MySpace: .avi, .asf,
.wmv, .dv, .mkv, .ogm, .mov, .qt, .3g2, .3gp, .3gp2, .3gpp, .gsm,
.mpg, .mpeg, .mp4, .m4v, .mp4v, .cmp, .divx, .xvid, .264, .rm, .rmvb,
.flv.
The File Size limit per upload is 100 mb. or megabytes. The length of video
this allows is dependent on a number of factors, but 10 minutes is about
the maximum.
You can then click Browse and find the video on your computer hard
drive that you want to upload. Click Upload and once it’s uploaded you
will be taken to the My Videos section. Your video is now on MySpace
and you can edit (title, description, tags) or delete it. “Tags” are keywords
associated with your video. If your video was a clip of you fishing from a
dock, keywords might be “fishing” “dock” “lake” “bass.”
Click on the video and you will be taken to a page that has the URL of
your video, so you can share it with people, and the Myspace code so
you can embed it on your MySpace page. Unless you change the
settings of it (by clicking “done” in the Edit section) other people can
also embed it on their pages. They can also comment on it and rate it.
That’s it, you’re a movie mogul.
YouTube:
You also have to have an account, which is easy and quick to do.
Once your account is created, you will find a button (link) in the right hand
corner of the homepage that says Upload. The first time you click on it,
YouTube will ask you to confirm your email. Click on “Send Email” so they
can send you a confirmation email. Once you get it and click the link to
confirm your email you have uploading capabilities.
Step 1: Click on Upload.
This will take you to Step 1 of 2. Your video is limited to being 10 min. and
100 mb. If you have a Director’s account other rules apply, and these are
described below.
Once again you fill out title, description, tags, categories, and also
Language. Then you have the choice of clicking on “Go Upload A File” or
“Use Quick Capture”.
Clicking on Go Upload A File will take you to step 2.
Step 2
This is where the Browse button is located. Search for the video you want
to share on your computer, then click Upload. Here is where you choose
to make it Public or Private (viewable only to you and people you
choose). You can only use “Use Quick Capture” if you have a webcam.
Clicking on “Use Quick Capture” allows you to record a YouTube video,
instantly, via your computer’s webcam.
Directors’ Account
The YouTube Director Program is a free feature for musicians, amateur
filmmakers, videobloggers, or professional content producers. Upon
successful registration, YouTube Director accounts will receive the
following benefits:
Logo co-branding, Company URL, and Company description on all of your
video pages
Ability to upload videos longer than 10 minutes
Customizable name & value fields for each of your videos (example: “Price:
$4.25″ or “Show Time: 9 pm PST”)
Ability to attach a per-video URL to each of your videos
Some of the answers to the FAQ questions about uploading on YouTube
are:
1. Yes, you have to have an account with them.
2. Videos will stay up on YouTube until the person who uploaded them
takes it down. Unless the video violates YouTube’s terms of agreement or
is flagged as unsuitable, then YouTube may delete it and cancel the
account. This would occur particularly if the video was pornographic or if it
violated copyright, meaning the person who uploaded it did not have the
copyright owner’s permission to do so.
3. YouTube accepts video files from most digital cameras and camcorders,
and cell phones in the .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats.
4. They recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 320×240 resolution
with MP3 audio, at 30 frames per second. Resizing your video to these
specifications before uploading will help your clips look better on YouTube.
Most home editing programs can automatically resize your videos for you.
5. Depending on your connection speed and the size of the video, it can
take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to upload a video.
Generally, if you have a high-speed internet connection you can expect the
upload to take somewhere between 1-5mins for every 1MB. However, the
experience is different for every user because of the variation in connection
speeds.
Photobucket.com
Photobucket is a video and photo sharing site. Once you have an account
with them, you can upload both pictures and videos to your album. You
can choose to make them public or private. A basic account is free, and
your videos must be a maximum of 5 min. in length. With a Pro account,
which is $25 a year, the limit is 10 minutes.
